Xin chào,
Hello, my name is Za. Together with my husband Nja and my two daughters, I live in a village Na Hoi Di Thang, a small village just outside Bac Ha. It is a village of the Flower H'mong minority in the northern mountains of Vietnam. It is a farmer village where most of the people own their lands and harvest rice, corn and other vegetables. A little bit further in the village lives my husband's mother and father and my uncle. I was born in Sa Pa which is 3 hours driving from Bac Ha. My mother and my 12 siblings still live there. I moved to Bac Ha to live in the village of my husband after our marriage. It is tradition to do so in Vietnam. |
We live in a small house and we own 5 rice paddies, a few corn fields and a big garden in which we plant all kind of vegetables. We also have a number of chickens, several pigs, 1 horse and a dog to protect our house.
We also have a motorbike which we use to go to the market or to other villages. My husband's family has a fishing pool. Here we catch fresh fish. They also have waterbuffalos which we use to prepare the land before seeding the rice or corn or vegetables. |
Before I settled down in Na Hoi Di Thang, I have been a tour guide for almost 2 years. This was to guide tourists to visit the natural wonder of Ha Long bay and other parts of northern Vietnam. This is where I learned English. And also where I discovered that I like to welcome tourist in my country and show them around. This is why today I want to take more time to introduce you in the Vietnamese life of a farmer.
Please have a look at my proposed planning to discover more. I suggest a 1 day tour. This planning includes: a small trekking through some minority villages, learning about the different types of rice, going into the rice fields and understanding how to work in the rice paddies (this depends on the season). The planning also includes a preparing dinner together and enjoying dinner with my family.
If you are intrested, it is also possible to extend your stay in Bac Ha and have a mulitple day planning. In this case, just let me know and we can make a personal planning together.
I would be very happy to welcome you into our home to experience the real Vietnamese life.
